This hat has been a huge hit with my advanced beginner students! It’s a great way to learn about stranded color work without feeling overwhelmed or like you need 12 hands!

You will need to know knit, purl and k2tog. You will need US7-16” and US7 DPN, as well as a stitch marker and a tapestry needle.

This pattern is written in infant size, small adult size and large adult size and is worked in sets of 8, so if you would like to make the hat larger, just add 8 when you cast on!

I hope you enjoy this hat as much as my students do!

Materials Needed:
Worsted Weight Yarn – 100g/180 yards
We used Grey (MC) about 20g for Infant, 45g for small adult and 55g for large adult.
We used Red (CC) you only need 5-10 yards!
Size 7 – 16” Circular Needle
Size 7 Double Pointed Needles
Stitch Marker
Tapestry needle for weaving in ends

Gauge: 4” x 4” = 18 stitches by 25 rows on size 7 needles

Sizes: Infant fits 14”-17” (Small Adult 20”-22”, Large Adult 23”-25”)

Jen’s Notes:

  • The Small Adult size is great for youth too!
  • I knit on the tighter side, if you are a loose knitter, you might want to go down to a US6.
