This is the May pattern from our sock club.

The winter of 2011 has been long and dreary here in Southern Alberta! I am so ready for Spring and as each day drew nearer to May 1 (anything before this really is wishful thinking) the winter would just not give up! At the end of March I headed west and found Spring hiding out there. The daffodils were blooming, window boxes already had pansies and primroses planted.

Then it struck me that the May sock needed to take advantage of the promise of Spring. Lace suggests that it will be warm enough for pale winter skin to peek through and the yellow of the daffodil can’t help but make you smile as it faces the warming sun. The primrose is one of the first plants to make its way into window pots and what better way to celebrate than to bring them together in a sock?

This “cheater” intarsia/ fairisle method gives the illusion of colourwork without the challenge of eliminating stretch and carrying colours while knitting in the round. It is your choice to leave the sock plain or add the duplicate stitch work. I hope you enjoy this promise of May flowers.
