Simple chevron pattern mittens with a peasant thumb and knitted in lining. A good first project for people wanting to try colorwork -- the pattern is easy to memorize and there are no long floats that require weaving.

Skills needed:
knitting in the round
increasing and decreasing
simple color changes
kitchener stitch grafting
picking up stitches

I made mine in very subdued grays, but I think they’d be fantastic in bright contrasting colors -- and great way to use up odds and ends you might have lying around.

I’m including two very simple options for the decreases at the finger end. They each have their attractions, so see which one makes a final product that appeals to you. The knitted in lining is optional but very easy and makes the mittens so much cozier.

Enjoy!
