Molly Baby socks were inspired by a trip to a Dallas yarn shop while visiting friends. Molly, the baby in question, needed socks. I had an evening with my friends, Molly’s parents. The complication? No set of dpns of the right size to be found—so these were knit on straight needles, with only two dpns used at the very end of the project. Et Voilà, Molly Baby was invented. It’s a shaped baby sock, inspired by Priscilla Gibson-Roberts’ short rows, but knitted on straight needles in an evening. What could be more satisfying?

This pattern was originally published on MagKnits.com. I’ve done some much needed tech editing and updated the gauge and yarn choices. The original yarn featured on Molly’s feet on MagKnits.com, shown here, Classic Elite Star, has been discontinued. This updated pattern is worked with 2 strands of finger weight yarn or one strand of sport weight yarn that knits at 5 sts to an inch, #4(3.5mm) straight needles, and needs two dpns for binding off. Sample yarn featured here is Regia 4 ply Silk, Regia 4 ply Bamboo, and Tahki Cotton Classic.

This project requires 1-2 skeins fingering weight or sports weight yarn with instructions for 3 sizes: 12 months, 2 years, and 3 years.

This pattern was originally published at MagKnits.com and has been reformatted and is now available directly on Ravelry and Payhip.
