Es war, als hätt der Himmel
Die Erde still geküßt,
Daß sie im Blütenschimmer
Von ihm nun träumen müßt. …

It was like Heaven’s glimmer
had touched the Earth’s skin
that in Her blossoms’ shimmer
She had to think of Him. …

Joseph Freiherr von Eichendorff
(Walter A. Aue)

Fingerless summer mittens designed for the April Challenge in the Designers Challenge group. The inspiration was Eichendorff’s “Mondnacht” (Moonlit Night) poem. The mercerised cotton thread makes this delicate lacey pattern shimmer like a carpet of blossoms in the moonlight.

The sizes are women’s XS/S, M/L, and XL/XXL to fit hands with up to 18, 20, and 22.5cm / 7 1/8, 7 7/8, and 8 7/8” circumference above thumb.

Cotton threads size 10-20 can be used for this pattern, as well as lace weight wool. The yardage given is rounded up to full Coats Eldorado skeins.

The pattern provides detailed instructions (11 pages), and is both written and charted.

With lots of thanks to my wonderful test knitters!
