Moonage daydream is a simple shallow triangular shawl with seed stitch borders designed to showcase the beauty of hand dyed yarns. It will also work fine in any other yarn, preferably a smooth yarn with a good stitch definition.

You can choose the yarn I designed this shawl for, the super soft Finito by Malabrigo or go ‘budget’ and use a nice commercial sock yarn or a smooth and soft yarn like Drops Baby Merino.

Gauge is not critical, but if you make a swatch, also work a few rows in seed stitch. The goal is to get a knitted fabric that is not too stiff, but with a nice and visible stitch definition in seed stitch.

Although Malabrigo Finito and Mechita have almost the same yardage, Finito blooms more after knitting, so we used needles one size bigger.

The shawl in Finito was worked on needles size 4 mm (US 6) and the gauge after blocking is approximately 20 sts per 10 cm. The finished size of the shawl is 180 cm (70.5”) wide and 60 cm (23.5”) high in the middle.

The shawl in Mechita was worked on needles size 3.5 mm (US 4) and the gauge after blocking is approximately 23 sts per 10 cm. The finished size of the shawl is 162 cm (63.5”) wide and 53 cm (21”)
high in the middle.
