I found a colorful vintage hand-printed textile on a trip to Morocco a few years ago, and couldn’t resist the camel and elephant design. This pattern is my third based on African design elements, and features 12 camels and 18 elephants!

This piece is a relatively generous-sized wrap, measuring approximately 50 x 210cm (20 x 83in) when knit with 4-ply wool on 3.5mm needles.

I used most of 3 100-gram skeins of 4-ply super-wash wool (around 900 meters, so there was around 100 meters left over). As you can see from the photos I added a contrasting color (about 200-225 meters of 2-ply super-wash wool) to add some visual interest and a bit of structural support.

Two identical panels are knit and are grafted together using the Kitchener stitch. Gauge is not important for this pattern.
