Mountain Ash
Knit from the center outward, this half-circular shawl features a garter stitch body and edge and evenly spaced increases across the rows. A knitted on lace border makes an elegant finish. Kate designed Mountain Ash while playing around with different shawl shapes, constructions and the contrast in texture between garter stitch and a detailed lace pattern. Knitters seem to love the balance between (mostly) mindless garter and a complicated lace at the end of the project—you get the best of both worlds in one beautiful accessory!
