This mug tam is a fun and easy crochet project for anyone who likes to drink yummy hot beverages like tea or coffee! Cozy wool yarn helps trap heat so your drink stays warm on even the coldest morning. This pattern was designed to work with common “average” coffee mugs. I tested it on a generic mug that measures 3 inches (7.5 cm) across, and on a slightly larger Pfaltzgraff mug that measures 3.5 inches (9 cm) across. Photos of both are included – the tam fits more snugly on the larger mug and more jauntily on the smaller mug : )
To crochet this project you will need about half an ounce (13 grams) of Mirasol “Hacho” yarn (it is beautiful hand dyed 100% Merino wool!), a size G/6 (4.25mm) crochet hook, scissors, and a yarn needle. Mirasol “Hacho” is a DK/8ply yarn, so if you can’t get your hands on a skein of it you can substitute another similar yarn of your choice. To complete this project you need to know how to double crochet and single crochet. This pattern goes step-by-step and includes photos along the way!
Because this is such a small project you can crochet multiple mug tams and give them to all of your friends (yay!) or you can use part of a leftover skein you have lying around.
