This is a semi-circle shawl with the volume turned up. The middle of the shawl highlights a clever sideways-knit section, adding interest to the traditional shawl shape. The piece is finished with a knitted-on border that is quick to knit and fun to work.

Deryn was originally featured as Jen’s 2015 Mystery Shawl.

Yarn used for shawl shown: 2 Guys Yarn Company,
Signature Fingering, 70% baby alpaca/20% silk/10% cashmere (437 yards/100g), in color Bog Copper (2 skeins)

Pattern Notes

  • Need some help with Clue 2? Here’s a video tutorial for you: https://youtu.be/zMX_TXPYRfI

  • You can work chart C as many times as you like (up to 6 times), ending with row 16. The amount of yarn needed for chart D is the same no matter how many repeats of chart C you complete.

  • You will need approximately 45 grams/200 yards of yarn (fingering weight – this may not hold up if you are using a different weight of yarn) to complete the shawl. If you’re worried about running out of yarn, set aside the above amount before you start knitting so you don’t run out.
