Designer’s Note:
The band on this hat is knitted flat and then seamed. The hat top is picked up off the back side of the band and knitted in the round.

Pattern is designed for 22” - 23” heads. On this cabled band pattern, you may add or subtract repeats according to whatever size head you’re fitting. Keep in mind this is written for an X to be joined in the middle. Because chunky yarn is being used, on picking up stitches you pick up 1 for every 2 rows of the band (there will also be the extra where it’s stitched shut acccounting for 2 of the picked up stitches).

Size can be adjusted by increasing or decreasing the number of cable repeats. It’s best to try to keep the number of rows increased or decreased to 6 so when you’re picking up stitches for the hat top they’re in increments of 3. If you increase the number of repeats of the hat band, make note you will need a second skein of yarn of that color. I used every single inch of the skein I chose to make the band and the pom pom.

When you pick up the stitches from the band, pick them up from the inside on the 2nd stitch from the edge. This gives the band an overlapped look like it is turned up.

A complete materials list is included in the pattern.
