Paulette is knit starting from the top with a garter tab and begins planting “flowers” that grow into a pretty trellis garden. The shawl is composed of relatively simple stitch patterns that are easy to memorize, however, the color changes keep the shawl interesting to knit! :o)

Stockinette gauge, unblocked, has been given to allow you to see how different your gauge is from mine. If your gauge is drastically looser, more yarn may be needed to finish the shawl.

Note The original Paulette was designed with a yarn that is now discontinued. Paulette has been rewritten to allow a higher variety of yarns to be used. Instead of needing fingering weight yarns of 438yds or more, skeins of 420yds+ are able to be used! See notes about yardage below.

Materials

Yarn
Malabrigo Mechita (100% superwash merino; 420 yds/100 g)
Color A: 1 skein in Water Green or 420 yds of a fingering weight yarn
Color B: 1 skein (see below note) in Anniversario or 438 yds of a fingering weight yarn (This designer used almost an entire skein of Mechita for the demo without running out. However, some test knitters did run out of B with similar yardage. You may want to buy a second skein to assure you have enough.)

Needles
US 4 (3.5mm) circular needles, 32”-40” recommended for length of shawl. Or size to obtain gauge.

Notions
6 st markers, tapestry needle

Gauge: 28sts x 36 rows = 4”x 4” 10cm x 10cm, unblocked in stockinette st. While gauge is not crucial to this project, it may affect the amount of yardage used for the shawl.

Final Dimensions: 50” 127cm width x 18” 47.5cm deepest height.
______________________
The original Paulette was knit with this beautifully indie dyed yarn, which has since been discontinued. The below information is about the neon pink and dark green version seen in pics at the bottom.

The directions are written to utilize as much of each skein as possible to create a cozy, well-sized shawl out of two skeins of Thoroughly Thwacked’s lovely Vixen yarn. This designer ended with only 8g of color A and 5g of color B leftover! (Gauge swatch included in weight of leftover yarn.)

Yarn: 1 skein Fierce Fibers Vixen in Forest Shadow (color A) and 1 skein Fierce Fibers Vixen in Cotton Candy (color B)
Needles: US 4 (3.5mm) 32”-40” circular needle to accommodate length of shawl, or size to obtain gauge.
Notions: 6 st markers, tapestry needle
