Phaze II is named after the barbershop on the corner of Woodbrook (my street) and North Avenue in Baltimore. This is the landmark by which I direct people to my house. I adore the irregular stripes on the barber poles outside and imagine the process of painting them:

“Hey, I got paint for the poles! Let’s paint them!”

And the painting began, with no plan to make the stripes consistent in any way. One or two guys just painted those suckers. It’s how I would paint barber poles if I weren’t supervised. Which will never happen. So I’ve decided to capture this spirit in knitting.

Notes:

Phaze II incorporates cables and uses three colors per round. Because the cables are irregular, it’s fine if you make a mistake (twist the wrong way, twist on the wrong round). Don’t let the technique intimidate you! Just keep you floats very loose and remain flexible!

As shown, Phaze II includes three full chart repeats. To create a shorter cowl, you can work only one or two chart repeats.
