This was designed specifically as a poncho that wouldn’t overwhelm a smaller frame. I’m 5’ tall and always wanted to own one of these snuggly, oversized pieces.

With that in mind, the overall length of this poncho is shorter, and the shaping allows your hips and legs to show. The upper poncho body is oversized, and sleeves meet the body around the hip, at the widest point. This allows movement and it also creates a shape that keeps your lower body visible. It’s the short row shaping below that creates the length at center. Notes are included in the pattern to modify body width, or to adjust the depth of the short row section if desired.

Poncho is knit seamlessly to lower sleeves, where there is minimal seaming along the cuff and lower arm.

Cables are both charted and written.

Finished Measurements:
45(49,55)“/ 114.5(124.5,139.75)cm circumference, measured 10(11,12)”/ 25.5(28,30.5)cm below high point of shoulder (approx. bust level).

I suggest 10-14”/ 25.5-35.5cm of positive ease around bust. Sample is shown with about 11”/28cm of ease.

Yarn:
Insouciant Fibers 100% Romney Yarn is available at Churchmouse Yarns, while supplies last. If substituting yarn, look for a heavy worsted or Aran weight natural fiber. A lofty or woolen-spun yarn without a lot of weight or drape will come closest to the original. YOTH Daughter or GMS Weekend Wool are great choices.

Yardage per size:
1300 (1500, 1700)yds/1190 (1370, 1555)m. Please note I’ve upped these from the original magazine estimates based on the first few finished ponchos in the different yarns. Better safe than sorry!

ERRATA:

Errata is for magazine version only. PDF version has corrections included.

Row 8, cable charts, there is a missing purl above each of the 2/2 cables. You want 3 purls between the V of the cable crosses from Row 7, not 2.

page 89, Short Row 5 - at end of third line. “m1R, K2, slm… the K2 is missing.

page 89, after Short Row 3 - continue to work Setup Charts A&B as stitches allow instead of following the specific chart stitch counts that are given, as these are 2 sts off. Instructions as written are correct, and overall poncho counts after Short Row 9 are fine.
