This flirty little top is the perfect piece for layering in your handmade wardrobe. You can dress it up over a maxi dress or wear it under a blazer for work, or dress it down with some shorts or jeans. I love the way the piece looks knit up with a speckled yarn held double.

A DK or heavier weight yarn could be substituted in this pattern, held single. For this substitution you would need approximately 1/2 of the recommended yardage.

Notes

This top is knit flat in two pieces, from the bottom up with simple shoulder shaping and a classic crew neck. The shoulders and sides are seamed after blocking (so you can customize exactly how large of an armhole opening you prefer). Fingering weight yarn is held double for this top, as well as for seaming. The yarn is held double for picking up stitches around the neck for the collar, then one strand is dropped to work an i-cord bind off with just one strand. A single strand of dk or light worsted weight could be substituted for this pattern, just be sure to check your gauge before you cast on!
