September is traditionally the month that sees the start of the new school year. The time of year when we all venture out to buy new school shoes and stock up with stationery.

This September is a special one for our daughter, as she begins the final year of wearing her school uniform.

I felt that I should mark this event by knitting her a pair of socks that she could wear to school.

My own memories of school socks were of knee length white socks, always with some kind of lace pattern on. I wanted to have a nod to that vintage design in my own socks.

Sock Details

The School House Socks feature a pretty lace pattern around the top of the leg, with a little hint of that lace just before the toe. You could of course, work the lace pattern down the whole of your socks if you prefer. The socks have a traditional heel flap and gusset and my much loved Umbrella Toe.

Sizes

The pattern comes in 3 sizes - Small (56 sts), Medium (64 sts) and Large (72 sts). The lace pattern is both written and charted. Instructions are written for the magic loop method, but other methods can be used.

Yarn

The pattern sample pair of socks are knitted using Eden Cottage Yarns, Rosedale 4ply. The shade I used is ‘Charcoal’.
