This pattern started as an experiment with shaping a hat using short rows. The result was far more interesting than I expected.

Sidewinder Free is a regular length, free version of our Sidewinder+ Slouchy Beanie. This hat is knit flat using short rows to create a unique reversible hat where garter stitch mimics ribbing.

And since it’s done in garter stitch, it can be made in just a few hours. A perfect last minute gift!
