IMPORTANT ADDITIONAL INFO (not in the pattern - please make sure you copy this out):

If you want to join the motifs, make sure you start with a corner ring, joined at the top to the right top corner of the motif made. Join all following top picots to their corresponding ones, working your way along the edge(s).

End with the missing ring of the first group, joining it to the first corner ring; after fastening off, tie starting and finishing ends of the thread together, this joins these rings at the base!

After following Enfys’ lovely tutorial (http://www.enfys.me.uk/crotat-stitches-on-tutorial.htm), I was looking for free simple beginners patterns for cro-tatting, but there does not seem to be so much: many patterns around are for other tatting techniques, mainly for shuttle tatting, and a lot of them can’t be easily followed without in-depth knowledge.

So I decided to improvise, and the result is this simple square motif. At first, I wanted to make a longer chain of those ring trios, but I soon realised they all wanted to be corners… so it became a square!

Note on the hooks: make sure you use a smaller hook than called for by your yarn.

Have fun and post pictures of your finished objects!
