One of nice things about this pattern is that it is thicker than the average knitted dog sweater, so little dogs like Chihuahuas will get an extra warm insulating layer. I have included some notes along the way, like how to adjust the front of the sweater for a male dog.

This sweater is an excellent stash buster!

The sweater is knit with a second, inside collar that shows just a bit above the first collar. You are not obligated to knit it, but I added it for two reasons. The first is that I think that little extra ‘pop’ of color looks really nice. Second, I felt that the sweater opening was too stretchy, and after a day of wear, the sweater might get saggy at the front of the chest. So the inside collar adds a little bulk and tightens up the neck opening a smidge. If you want to leave it out, you are more than welcome to.

Size:
Made for dog/cat with back length ~10 inches. Can make sweater longer by adding pattern repeats (Dachshunds come to mind…)

Yarn:
Malabrigo Merino Worsted [100% Merino Wool, 216 yds/100 grams] One skein of each:
Bubby Blue (MC)
Purple Mystery (CC1)
Sapphire Green (CC2)
Cadmium (CC3)
Butter (CC4)
• Note: Any aran weight yarn should work fine, and the CC’s barely used any yardage at all, so this sweater might be a good stash-buster.
