This shawl was originally released as an MKAL in March 2014.

It’s a crescent shaped, top-down shawl, with optional beading and variable sizing, knitted in an original stitch pattern designed to resemble a field of spring flowers.

I’ve knitted samples in various lace and 4-ply yarns and there are options for no beads, some beads and loads of beads!! You can knit it as allover lace, start with some stocking-stitch and then go to lace when you’re ready, or just add a lace edging to a stocking-stitch body.

You can work some of the charts more than once, or use the stocking-stitch start, to increase the size of your shawl. As you’ll see, it’s VERY flexible!!

I used one skein of the following W&L yarns for my samples:

Baby Alpaca/Mulberry Silk 4-ply (400m/100g), worked at 22 sts to 10cm on 4.00mm needles. Finished size 130cm wide by 45cm deep.

Lambswool/Cashmere 4-ply (565m/100g), worked at 21 sts to 10cm on 4.50mm needles. Finished size 160cm wide by 52cm deep.

Merino Lace (700m/100g), worked at 24 sts to 10cm on 3.75mm needles. Finished size 180cm wide by 55cm deep.

50:50 Merino Silk Lace (800m/100g), worked at 24 sts to 10cm on 3.75mm needles. Finished size 190cm wide by 50cm deep.

It’s an original lace pattern with, I hope, enough subtle variations to keep an experienced knitter interested. The stocking-stitch version should also be suitable for a confident beginner.

The alpaca/silk 4-ply used just over 1,000 beads for the “loads of beads” version, working each chart just once, and would use around 760 for the “fewer beads” version - but as I said it’s a very flexible pattern.
