I got inspired by Clara on The Guild wearing this squid hat, and I finally gave up and decided to try to make my own, as I always like a challenge! And… it certainly has been fun! :) (By the way, ObeyMyBrain on etsy is the original maker of the “squid hat”--you can see his stuff on etsy!)

The video tutorial for how I did the suction cup stitches can be found here: http://youtu.be/akfl8cOtOec … sorry for the quality, it is not the best but it is my first video to attempt in this way!! I have never ever pieced clips of videos together, and have never tried my camera on something so small as the stitches. It doesn’t focus well. But you should be able to get the idea, hopefully!!!

NOTE: The hat is not designed to come over the ears. Instead, it sits on top of the head, just like Clara’s does. So, with that in mind, it is 18” in circumference. The arms are about 10”, and I only made 6 instead of 8. The two long tentacles are about 18” in length and can be tied under the chin if you wish. With the weight, it sits fairly well on top of my head.

If you use DK yarn, the measurements roughly come out to:

Circumference: approx 16½”
Whole thing from top of fins to bottom of arms: 15”
Head top to bottom: 7¾”
Arms from top to bottom: 7½”
(Thanks to MintSauce for testing this in DK and measuring it for me!)

It takes quite a bit of yarn:
2 skeins I Love This Yarn! Dark Country Blue (or whatever color you like)
1 skein Denim Blue
Scrap colors for the eyes (black, white, a different blue, whatever)
It also takes at least one bag of stuffing (1lb 4 oz like you get at your local supply store)

Thanks to my testers, who made sure my errors were kept to a minimum. :)
