Pattern contains a special stitch usually called the Star Stitch.
Size is for newborns but is easily adjusted to fit older babies if you just add a few rows.

I used Lunare from Yarns of Italy but you can substitute with any 4 ply cotton yarns, or any 4 ply worsted. I only needed one skein for the legwarmers, but if you choose to purchase the bonnet (designed by Crochet by Jennifer and available here http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/vintage-star-baby...) you will need two skeins of the Lunare.
