Pattern description from Interweave Knits, Spring 2006: “This soft regal shrug is the perfect garment for cool moments on warm spring days. The yarn is handspun and dyed so that one end of the skien had color and the other end remains a natural white. Pam Allen used the undyed portion of the skeins to knit deep lace cuffs, a delicate counterpoint to that yarn’s rustic qualities. The remainder of the shrug is worked back and forth without breaking the yarn so that the subtle colors of the dyed portion create a wide stripe pattern across the back. The piece has no neck opening but is worn as a rectangle with holes for the arms.”

Finished Size: 58¼ (65½)“ (148 166.5 cm) from cuff to cuff, to fit bust sizes 32-38 (40-46)” (81.5-96.5 101.5-117 cm).

Yarn: La Lana Wools Streakers! (100% wool; 200 yd 183 m/113 g): oriental blue streak, 3 (4) skeins.

Needles: Sizes 10 (6 mm) and 10½ (6.5 mm). Adjust needle size if necessary to obtain the correct gauge.

Notions: Tapestry needle.

Notes from Interweave Knits, Spring 2006:

  • “Cast on and bind off very loosely. Shrug is worked in one piece, beginning and ending with a ribbed border.”
  • “When winding balls from skeins, begin with white end on first two skeins and dyed end on remaining skein(s).”
