Originally designed for the String Theory Yarn Co. Mad Science Club, The Origin of Species uses a variety of stitch patterns to depict cells of increasing complexity, worms, shells, stems, and foliage. Some of the patterns are written out, some are both written and charted, and one is charted only. The stitch patterns range from easy to somewhat finicky. If you prefer not to work the finicky stitch patterns, just work more repeats of the pattern that precedes or follows them. You will be replicating gaps in the fossil record in your shawl.
