Thread Crochet Mittens For 18 Inch Dolls

March 2013
Perle Cotton Thread
1.25 mm
This pattern is available for download for $3.00.

About The Pattern:

This pattern has been designed as a basic mitten pattern for 18 inch dolls, that you can use to create many variations. The pattern was created using a Journey Girl doll as a model for the size, so for other brands of dolls in the same size, it is recommended that you test the size after you have made the first few rows. If you have a little experience with crochet, it won’t be difficult for you to add or take a couple of stitches to the pattern to fit your doll’s specific hand size.

This pattern has been designed so the mittens are slightly tight and don’t fall off the hands of the doll, so don’t be afraid if the mitten looks a little small while making it and testing it – as you can see in the pics, they fit the doll beautifully. Cotton thread doesn’t stretch much, which makes for a very sturdy mitten - an advantage, I think, because you can put them on and off a hundred times without the mitten stretching or loosing shape.

Also, this pattern has one set of instructions for each hand, so the line where you join stitches is always on the outer edge of the hands. It doesn’t matter if you’re left handed or right handed – make one of each, and you will get two symmetrical but inverse mittens.

The pattern starts at the doll’s knuckles, and goes up towards the arms. Only the crochet instructions are included – ornamentation is up to you!
