I love reversible scarves, since you do not have to worry about which side is showing. An intriguing brioche stitch variation was used to both make the scarf fully reversible and also very warm since the fabric created is double thickness.

Knitting the scarf sideways allows the stripes to run lengthwise down the scarf and gives a vivid impression of tire tracks. This scarf makes a truly warm and impressive winter accessory.

This pattern contains only written instructions as the instructions consist of two set-up rows and one pattern row that is then repeated until the bind-off row.

Gauge is not critical in this pattern, as it is an accessory and the stitch pattern itself is fairly stretchy. It does take around 400 yards of worsted weight yarn to get a decent sized scarf as the stitch pattern ends up as a double thickness of yarn. I used self-striping yarn, it would be easy to create your own stripes by starting a new color wherever you would like. It is recommended that you knit at least 2 rows in one color before changing.

You will need a size 6 (4.0 mm) and 7 (4.5 mm) needle. The size 7 needle is used only for the cast-on and bind-off row to ensure that the cast-on and bind-off match the flexibility of the crossed brioche stitch pattern.

Skills: In order to make this pattern as written, the following skills are needed.
Cable cast-on (to match the appearance of the bind-off row)
K2tog
k2tog tbl (bind-off row only)
Yarn Over

Difficulty Rating: Advanced Beginner

Notes: This pattern is very repetitive once it is established, however the first few rows are somewhat challenging as you are setting up the stitch pattern.

Yarn Selection - You only need one type of yarn per scarf (unless you are creating your own stripes). The striping happens as you knit with your chosen yarn. The suggested yarns were selected because they look really good with the stitch pattern.
