I first came across this pattern in the 70’s or early 80’s. Stitch pattern is a trinity or blackberry stitch. Trinity because you are making 3 stitches into 1 and vice versa. Blackberry I suppose because the little bobble looks like the bumpy blackberry. Which ever you like to call it, it is fun, fast, and an attractive stitch.
The fingering yarn I used in the example pictures, is sock yarn I had, and I wanted a scarf. I will knit until the end of the skein and then bind off for the scarf. If you want a shawl size, change the yarn weight to worsted and needle size to a 10. Knit until you have the size you want.
Gauge is not important for this project.
