“Veneziana” is a slouchy beanie that my best friend Tryste and I designed together during our holiday in Venice over Christmas 2011.

This really easy-to-knit hat consists of two elements: a Lace band that reminds us of the canals and labyrinthine streets of Venice, and a simple knit purl combination called “Granite stitch”, which recalled the name of the yarn we chose and the gorgeous marble architecture of northern Italy.

The pattern provides stitch counts for 2 sizes: 57 and 59cm head circumferences, with two kinds of crown shaping.

The yarn that we used is no longer manufactured, therefore further instructions are provided to help you adapt the pattern according to your own measurements and chosen yarn.

ERRATA: there is a symbol in the Canal Lace chart that looks like a “C”. It is not listed in the key, but should be interpreted as a normal yarnover. Apologies for the oversight and happy knitting!
