Knit a perfect replica of your husband, boyfriend, dad, grandad, brother, son or best friend with this customisable pattern.

Woolly Man has 30 knitted hair and facial hair combinations - full head of straight hair, full head of curly/afro hair, receding hairline, bald on top, bald at the crown, completely bald, clean shaven, full beard, goatee beard, moustache and sideburns. Hair can alternatively be sewn or crocheted on to give even more possibilities.

In addition to the written instructions on how to knit the body and basic head, there are coloured intarsia charts for the different head variations, explanations of how to sew the knitted pieces together and how to stuff Woolly Man and close-up photos illustrating how to make his features.

Woolly Man is knit flat and if using Cascade 220 yarn and 3.5mm needles he is approximately 32cm (12.5 inches) tall.

Woolly Woman is available as a separate pattern.

You will need:

  • Cascade 220 yarn: approximately 5g each for the skin, shoes and hair, 20g for the top, 23g for the trousers and a small amount for the eyes. Beige, Sand, Tan and Brown are good shades for the skin.
  • 3.5mm (US 4) knitting needles.
  • A stitch holder.
  • Toy stuffing.
  • A small amount of black, white and lip-coloured embroidery thread.
  • A tapestry needle.
  • A sharp sewing needle.
  • Optional: 3.5mm crochet hook (if you want to attach hair with cow hitch).
  • Optional: felting needle (for the features).

Techniques you should be familiar with before using this pattern:

  • Increases and decreases.
  • Most heads require intarsia, however you won’t need to know this technique if you want to sew or crochet the hair on or if you knit a man who is completely bald.
  • Duplicate stitch for the moustache and sideburns.

When you buy this pattern you will also receive a free 15-page tutorial on how to use mattress stitch to sew toys together.
