I learned to knit at a very young age. One of my favorite books is still in my personal library ~ The Workshop Book of Knitting by Ursula von Wartburg, copyright 1973. In it Ms. von Wartburg explains to the very young how to read and follow patterns. She made it easy enough for this eager 10-year-old to dive in and get her feet wet.

This baby blanket is based on a lace pattern in the Workshop Book. In that volume, there’s no particular name for the pattern - so I’ve named this blanket the Workshop Lace Pattern. If Ursula is still around, this pattern gives homage to you and your brilliance! Thanks for inspiring hundreds of young knitters the world over.

NOTE: This is a download pattern, not the finished product. It is a Word based document and is easily downloaded to your computer, then you can print it off for your own personal use.

The finished blanket is 30 x 34 inches. It takes 5 skeins of Plymouth Fantasy Naturale.

I would say that the pattern is for a confident beginner/intermediate knitter.

You’ll need to know how to:
Cast on
Knit
Purl
Yarn over
Knit two together
Bind off

Easy repetition of six rows for pattern.
