The Ziggy Beanie is a fun, groovy chunky beanie worked bottom up in an allover textured slip stitch. The brim is double-folded for extra warmth and structure. This pattern was born as a stash buster, it lends itself to chunky leftovers as well as lighter weight yarns to be held together.

Sizes: 1 (2)

Size Guide: Size 1 fits a head circumference of 54 - 58 cm (21.25 - 22.75 inches). Size 2 fits a head circumference of 58 - 62 cm (22.75 - 24.5 inches).

The pink, white and grey sample is knitted in a size 2 to fit a head circumference of 58 cm (22.75 inches).

The blue and purple sample is knitted in a size 1 to fit a head circumference of 58 cm (22.75 inches).

You can refer to the testers’ versions on the last pages of the pattern to see how the beanie looks knitted in the two sizes.

Length Unfolded: 31 cm / 12.25 inches (33 cm / 13 inches)

Gauge: 11 sts x 20 rows = 10 x 10 cm / 4 x 4 inches in textured slip stitch on 9 mm / US 13 needles after washing and blocking.

Needles: 9 mm / US 13 circular needles of 40 cm / 16 inches.

Yarn: approx. 130 (160) metres / 142 (175) yards of chunky weight yarn. If you are using 3 colours, you’ll need approx ⅓ of the recommended yardage in each colour, but of course, you can work with as many colours as you like. You can also hold different strands of lighter weight yarns together to obtain the appropriate chunky weight. Note that you may need more or less yarn if you want to modify the length of the beanie.

Yarn Suggestions:

2 (2) balls of Rowan ‘Big Wool’ (100 g = 80 m/87 yds)
or 2 (2) balls of Cascade Yarns ‘Lana Grande’ (100 g = 80 m/87 yds)
or 2 (2) balls of Juniper Moon Farm ‘Big Merino Wool’ (100 g = 80 m/87 yds)

The pink, white and grey sample is knitted in a size 2 using yarn scraps in different weights.

The blue and purple sample was knitted in a size 1 using 142 grams of Rowan ‘Big Wool’ in the shades 085 Vintage, 064 Prize, and 026 Blue Velvet.
