The construction of this piece is super simple. It’s basically five rectangles knit flat and seamed together. The sleeves and yoke are knit side to side in one piece. The back and front pieces are three more rectangles, and the collar is one long skinny rectangle. There’s no armhole or sleeve cap shaping to mess with and the waist shaping is done by changing needle sizes. I’ve added diamond-shaped underarm gussets for a better fit and ease of movement.

With 4 inches of positive ease, this cardigan is very forgiving. If the dimensions end up a bit off, you can block it out.

Difficulty
Experienced intermediate. Techniques include lace with yos on both sides, increases and decreases, Jeny’s Surprisingly Stretchy Bind-off, and backwards loop cast-on

Yarn
Recommended yarns were used by pattern testers, but you can use any light fingering weight in blockable fibres such as wool, cashmere, cotton/wool blends or linen. Fibres which are prone to stretching out such as pure cotton, bamboo and viscose are not recommended. Solid or heathered colours recommended. Good stitch definition is a plus.

Knitting Needles
3.75 mm/US size 5 knitting needles for the yoke and sleeves. Waist shaping is achieved by changing needle sizes so you will also need 3.5 mm/US size 4 and 4mm/US size 6 needles. Depending on your gauge, you may need to adjust needle sizes.

Other equipment
Darning needle
4 row markers or safety pins
About 24 stitch markers (optional)
Additional safety pins or scrap yarn

Swatching
Swatching is highly recommended for this project. Make a large spider stitch swatch (50 sts wide—7 repeats of 6 sts plus 8 extra sts) for more accurate measurement.
