I’m changing this pattern up a bit since a lot of other finished projects look more like beanies than slouchy hats. One weird thing about the pattern is that it lists the finished measurement as 22” but at the pattern gauge, the number of stitches worked will only give you a hat that is ~20.5”. Maybe the discrepancy is because the pattern is written for an alpaca yarn and it’s factoring in the growth that would come with blocking?

I’m casting on for 108 stitches with the size 5 needle, increasing an additional 12 stitches after the ribbing, and then working the rest of the hat on size 6 needles over 120 stitches. I also added an extra inch of length to get some more slouch to this not-very-slouchy hat. I added half an inch before the color work and another half inch before beginning the crown decreases. I had to adjust the crown decreases since I was working the hat over 120 stitches, but it was easy enough to do.

I’m glad this hat worked out. I wanted a hat to match my Honey Cowl, but didn’t have enough yardage of the blue. This ombre hat pattern is a nice compromise.
