Notes

Have decided that it really must be longer, I can’t deal with ‘cropped’ especially since I’m already long-waisted. So, I’m going with the 1st size because I have a 37” bust. I’m sure that 4-5” of +ease is plenty; but, I’m going to make the body 12” rather than 9” with an armscye that’s deeper than 6” as well, otherwise I won’t be able to layer it over anything.
Goes pretty quickly especially when mindless stockinette is called for ;). I’m at 5” already and I’m getting about 3” per ball so far.

finished with the body!

Just this morning I got to 12” and I’m ready to separate the front and the back. Just for the heck of it I added one shortrow before the separation for good measure ;). So, I’ve used 4 balls for the body and I’m figuring 1.66 for front and about the same for the back.

Progress! 11-14-2018

the back and forth goes slower than the circular knitting but I’ve managed to move along. I have the front at the required 6” and the back at 4”. I think I might want deeper armholes so I want to knit both the front and the back and then try it on before making up my mind.

Joined the shoulders and starting the funnel neck 11-24-2018

Yay! I finally finished the front and back. Having tried and measured and tried and measured, I finally settled on a front armscye length of 7” and a back length of 7.5 after joining and before blocking as even my snuggest t-shirt didn’t have a 6” armscye and I do want to be able to layer.
I didn’t have the patience to graft the shoulders with kitchener stitch, so I just did a 3-needle bind off with the RS facing and kept my tension ‘soft’ so that the seam is very flexible.
I tried it on with the joined shoulders and I’m very happy with the body length of 12”, it falls right above my hip bones so that there won’t be a gap between the top of my jeans and the bottom of the sweater. The armhole is really perfect at the longer depth and the chest measures exactly 42” which is 5” of ease on me and that’s just right.
Decided to switch to 3.25mm needles for the neck as several others have mentioned that the neck was a bit snug. Now, only 108 more rounds of stockinette to go to finish the neck ;^)!

’sleeve’ ribbing done…almost finished! 11-29-2018

Since I made the armholes larger than for size 1 on the pattern I had to wing it on how many stitches to PUK but I looked at some of the other sizes and went for 88 and that came up just right. I decided to do a sewn bind-off, yeah, it was time consuming but IMHO it’s really worth it in terms of looks. I used this video from ‘knit freedom’ because I liked her technique for 1x1 rib bind-off. I’m pleased with the results and will use the same technique for the top of the funnel neck when I finish. Having finished the sleeve ribbing, I’m using the rest of that ball to finish the neck. I’m just going to stop when I run out of yarn because I don’t want to use more than 8 balls total and I’m on my 8th ball now :).

12-02-2018

Finished funnel neck when I finished 8th ball of yarn. It ended up at 10”. That’s the same as another funnel neck top that I have and like so I was happy with it. I like the top and ‘Glomin’ is the perfect colour to go with my turtle neck and a nice pair of woolen tights that I wear in the winter as well as with my Craigallien hat. Steam blocked the sweater and have been wearing it today and it’s very comfortable. I did spritz the neck opening with a little water and block it a bit wider so that it doesn’t squeeze.

I’ve been wearing this a lot and it’s the perfect weight for wearing around the house in the not-so-cold-just-yet winter we’ve been having. It’s also lightweight so I can still throw on a heavier cardigan over it when I go outside. It is lots of stockinette but worth it for a ‘go-to’ garment.
