Notes

Copying the first sweater I ever made (circa 1970), which I still wear, though it’s not quite as oversized as it was when I was a pre-teen.

Simple drop-shoulder sweater. I used the measurements from my old sweater, but then made it an inch longer and made the sleeves slightly wider at the top. In retrospect, I wish I had used the original sleeve measurements, since this yarn stretches out a bit more than the yarn in the old sweater. But it doesn’t bother me enough to reknit the tops of the sleeves.

Body: 84 sts each for front and back on US 7 (18.5” across each piece, 37” total)
Ribbing: 2x2 ribbing on US 6 (1.5” at hem, 2” at sleeves, 1” at neck)
Sleeve length: 19”
Sleeve width: 15” (original sweater was 14”, should have kept that).
Armhole depth: 7.5” (should have kept the original 7”)
Body length: 21.5”

Update
I like how the yarn feels, especially after it’s been washed, but the two sweaters I’ve knit from it really grow a lot when worn - especially width-wise. This one seems even worse than the other one. After a day of wearing, this sweater goes from a slightly loose fit to baggy by the end of the day, and shortens by about 1 1/2”.

2/7/2015: Decided to cut off the ribbing, pick up the stitches, and knit more length. Much happier with the longer length - added about 3”.
