I was inspired by Plarny Yarn Creations on facebook, who made a bag like this for herself using the crocodile stitch. I looked at her photos & used my knowledge of bag construction plus a tutorial on the crocodile stitch by MoiraCrochets to learn the crocodile stitch. There are also numerous youtube videos, but make sure you do the staggering stitch as some have just one scale on top of the other.

I began with a chain or foundation sc (a multiple of 6 + 4)and then just increased on the ends to make an oval of sc for my bag base. I was praying as I was making this bag & God had my stitches come out to just the right number-82 if I remember right-which figured right for the beginning crocodile stitch row (a multiple of 6 + 4=13 x 6=78+4=82).
I wanted to add a bit of colors and the person I was making this for wanted jewel colors, so I decided that since jewels are rare, and so are colored plastic bags, that I would stagger the colors every other row and on alternating petals.
The song that went through my head as I was praying for the recipient of this bag was “More Precious Than Silver” The chorus says, “Lord, you are more precious than silver, Lord you are more costly than gold, Lord you are more beautiful than diamonds, and nothing I desire compares with you.”
When it got tall enough, I did sc around for a few rows to make a border & added a small flower & a chain loop for closure. I sewed a lining (first time at the sewing machine in years!) and handsewed it into the bag.
Really enjoyed making this bag!
