First pair of “gloves”! Testing the pattern before using the intended yarn purchased for this pattern.
The pink was not the yarn I had intended to use, LOL. It was the sport weight yarn closest to me at the time.
I really like this pattern--once I figured it out. It looks good and there’s a lot going on to keep the mind interested. It’s quick, too.
I used size 5 DPNs for the glove and size 4 DPNs for the thumb. I have difficulty keeping tension with less stitches on the needles. It’s easier for me to use smaller needles.
In retrospect, I think using size 4 DPNs would be better for me.
Changes & Clarifications:
I first tried this pattern a year ago with this same yarn but in mint. Didn’t go well. Ended up not putting in the thumb when I should have due to a confusing part in the pattern. Start the thumb in Row 4 of leaves lace pattern, not in the fourth pattern round.
I had the worst time starting the pattern until I realized the TBLs weren’t decreases. This was after I had attempted the pattern multiple times with both the Patons Grace I had bought for the fingerless gloves and the Bernat Softee Baby I had nearby. Once I had reread the pattern, I realized they were supposed to be done individually and didn’t have any trouble with the pattern after that.
I apparently don’t like M1s, so I used KFB for the increases in the thumb. Overall, the thumb ended up okay. (First one!) I may have had one stitch too few, but I don’t think anyone will notice. Looks like I didn’t pick up stitches in quite the right places so I had a couple of holes. I used the loose ends to weave them closed. I’ll work on that for the second glove.
Not sure if I did the provisional cast on correctly (probably not). I’ll need to watch a few videos to get it down. Still not too difficult. I also picked up stitches for the first time. As I suspected, it wasn’t difficult.
I did not use beads for this project. Not the time. Maybe later.
Update 10/30/2012
Started and finished second glove today.
It’s a little wonky, the stitches are not as even as I would like. Good practice though.
I will definitely either use smaller needles next time or a worsted yarn. They are too gappy for me.
