Notes

Inspired by the project of Stardiver -sorry to copy, but it’s so elegant…

April 10th: 3rd shawl

  • Done. The third one ! 71 cm x 136 cm.
  • April 4th: stripes just finished. Unblocked. No peak (photos 3, 4 and 5). Yeah ! I can think about an other one now, for me, using the same yarns but different colorway. Here it is.

March 14th: 2nd shawl

  • The second one using the same yarns/colors is larger, yes (6th photo), but not enough: it’s still impossible to make a tie. And I am not satisfyed at all. The peak is still there (7th photo); I have an idea now about the various factors inducing it.
  • To be short, I will unravel this second shawl to keep only the first band and to extend it by 72 rows in order to knit the lace border with 36 more sts (one pattern added at each edge). I will decrease by 5 sts/4 rows instead of 4 sts/4 rows to open the top angles; these angles must be right angles or close to right angles to cancel this peak. It’s only geometry and I should have thought before re-knitting…

Feb 18th: 1st shawl

  • It’s really smaller than I thought… My gauge (st st) is 21 sts and 30 rows instead of 17 sts and 29 rows. When finished and blocked, I expect to get approx 21” (53 cm) very close to the 22” (55 cm) of the pattern. But across the top, I think to get 40” (1 m) instead of 49” (122 cm). It does not work for me, it’s impossible to make a tie, even a small one.
  • An other technical problem is the peak you can see on the photo 8. I looked at other projects, they all have this peak, more or less marked. I am not sure it comes from the lace border, perhaps from the double decreases ? I will try to work a double decrease on right side and to slip the resulting st on the wrong side.

I do not think at all that blocking solves this problem : there is a physical tension in the work that will spontaneously re-appear later.

I will finish this shawl, but I will knit an other one, larger and I probably will change the slope (the rate of the decreases).
