Notes

Testing out the pattern before using nicer yarn.

I can already tell that I don’t like working with this yarn…

4/19/15

Took far longer than it should have, but it’s finished. Thinking of adding a crochet edging to armholes.

I really, really, really dislike cabling. Took several tries and a video to figure out where I should be cabling. Worked through a row and a half of ribbing before I realized that I had forgotten to switch back to size 8 needles. Tried to avoid ripping out the called section, but it was too gape-y. Really should have put a lifeline in. After that, there were slow but uneventful cabling and ribbing rows.

First time doing the mattress stitch, but it looks like I miraculously did it correctly.

This yarn was a pain to knit in lace. The metallic stand kept catching and/or unraveling.
_____________
Measurements:

CO: 102 stitches
Target length: 19.5”

After knitting, these dimensions seem to work fine, but work may stretch over time.

Update: The bolero had stretched quite a bit. I will cast on fewer stitches next time.
____________
Notes for next time

I’m not sure if I read the pattern wrong, but I don’t think it’s clear whether some of the directions referenced the two edge stitches our not. It didn’t help that I used a different method of slipping the stitches than what the pattern stated.

I’m also not sure if I did the ribbing correctly since I had two reverse stockinette sections on one side and two stockinette sections on the other. The seam looks okay on the stockinette end, but too wide on the reverse stockinette end.

Next time I want the ribbing to start with k2 and end with k2, so cast on in multiples of 4 for main section + 2 extra for ribbing + 2 edge stitches. Since the lace section is worked on multiples of 4, this means the piece will have two extra stitches on each end of work, one for the edging and a k on the RS. However, this will change the way the lace sits on the ribbing.

I think this might work better…
