Heart-Shaped Bag

Project info
Heart-Shaped Bag by Nicola Schofield
Crochet
BagPurse / Handbag
Hooks & yarn
5.5 mm (I)
Notes

I don’t have any dk yarn so I’m just using 1 strand of acrylic worsted weight yarn in red. It doesn’t have a label so brand unknown.

My Notes

Starting over because I just noticed it was using UK terms not American.
US------------------------------UK
chain(ch)----------------------chain(ch)
single crochet (sc)------------double crochet (dc)
double crochet (dc)-----------treble (tr)
half double crochet (hdc)-----half treble (htr)
triple crochet (trc)------------double treble (dtr)
slip stitch (sl st)---------------slip stitch (sl st)

Looks like 23 rows for me makes a square.

This is a cute little bag but it has some issues. It needs something to give it stability otherwise when you pick it up by the strap it loses the heart shape you see when it is laying flat. I ended up making a lined bag with zipper closure (my first time for that). It isn’t perfect but it does hold its shape better now. I just took a piece of paper and traced the bottom of the heart (so it does have the point) to just below the bumps of the heart to make a template. I used double layer so it has a matching lining and also used a thin interfacing. Now when you pick it up by the strap it holds its shape and the bumps of the heart above just sag a little bit.

For my handle I just chained 70 (for a young child) and sl st to the other side then sl st over two sts and chained 70 back the other way. I made 3 chains total and then just wound yarn around the middle to hold them together.
