I finished the first slipper and that’s enough. I have frogged this one slipper -- as of today -- 21 times in an attempt to alter the pattern to actually fit my foot. (Essentially, I have a size 10 foot, and the standard size that the pattern is initially written in was too wide for my feet (by 4 inches) and I only had to add a quarter of an inch to the length). The pattern is written for an “average” size 6.5 American foot.
While the pattern was wide enough for my feet, I had -- literally -- 4 inches of left over height in the toes with nothing that I can do about it. I crochet very tightly all the time, every other pattern I have ever worked on I have had to use larger hooks or directly alter to make the gauge or finished size, so I don’t know what to say aside from follow the basic instructions after taking your measurements and hope it fits your toes.
A note to people who prefer the slipper with the shorter toe cover, do not do the full 18 rounds (rounds 9-27), and make sure that after every couple of rounds you try on the slipper to make sure that the toe cover is where you want it to be. By the time I finally made it to round 27, I just wanted to be done with the project so I could move on back to my massive “must do” list for my wedding.
While I am not a fan of this particular pattern, it was still a good learning and problem solving pattern, but I currently am not at the skill level of designing or altering a pattern to actually make this pattern work for me.
