Notes

I spun two yarns, each from one of a paired colorway I offered for my Mixed Blessings Fiber Club, May 2010. The fiber is superwash merino. Each skein was @ 2.5 oz, and roughly 180 yards. I knit the hat with US #5 circular needles. I followed the instructions exactly, starting with the lighter background hat. I had to change the colorwork pattern for the darker background hat, as the lighter yarn was just lost, and it did not look good to me.

I found this a fun traveling project, working on it at the doctors office, and sneaking in some knitting at work. I stored the yarn right in the hat, while I was knitting the second hat. The only problem was, the yarn was still in the hat when I finished the second hat, and I did not realize it until I worked in the end! Rather than try to find that worked in end, I decided to make like an Elizabeth Zimmerman after thought heel, and I snipped the yarn! Pulled it from stitches to either side, placing the loose stitches on two dbl pt needles. Through this incision, I then performed my surgery, carefully removing two small balls of yarn, and making sure to tie off all ends before closing.

I am surprised Elizabeth did not mention this situation in her pattern, as she was so practical I am sure she would have realized the possibility for this.

I do love the hat very much! With all the extra thickness, it is soft like a marshmallow.
