Notes

On Thursday night I saw the Crofthoose Hat for the first time and as I am unwell and not a work, I decided I’d download the pattern and knit up as it is such a cute design, which is cheering! Knitting is relaxing for me and I love creating things.
The only thing I did differently from Ella’s design was to add in a splash of red - so used 6 colours.
My dark colours are quite similar - Grouse and a very deep olive green (Jamieson’s of Shetland) which remind me of the colours in the landscape here.
The Granny smith colour is one which I have fallen in love with and it too gives a nice pop of colour along with the red. The crofthooses with the green roofs remind me of the houses you see in our neighbouring island, Faroe!

I have added in a few pictures of Shetland traditional crofthooses which belong to our family. The white one crofthoose belongs to my parents and is used during the summer months for holidays by friends and family. The other one belongs to me and my husband, Ivor. We bought a house plot almost ten years ago, and within the garden where our new home is situated we have an old house. We have begun refurbishing it, having replaced windows, roof and outside cladding - eventually we’ll use it for a workshop, come guest accommodation.
