Starting over: no extra repeats, and I’m adding beads. Lace cast-on with 5mm; knitted on 4mm.

My logic on the repeats: There’s plenty of yarn, but I’d have to add lots of extra repeats to make this a warm, wrap-around shawl. At that point, it would be too tall/long to be a comfortable scarf. So I’ll knit the original scarf (shawlette) size, and use a more suitable pattern for a warm shawl.

Beading: I’m using glass beads finished to look like weathered copper. Beads are going on Chart A only. On the Sl1/k2tog/psso, the bead is added at the end, to the stitch that remains after you’ve passed the slipped stitch. I’m also placing a bead on the knit stitches that fall at the end of each repeat; on Wendy’s Chart A, it’s the stitch to the right of the vertical dotted line.

14 June 2011: Casting on and starting Chart A. Worked the first three chart rows, but I need to stop to do some freelancing.

19 January 2012: Finally picking this back up after letting it sit for months.

22 January 2012: Finished knitting. Need to block.

24 January 2012: Blocking to 38” x 20”. This is pretty severe blocking, but it’s necessary to get the pattern to open up. (I’m not fussed about the actual size, I just want the stitches to show well.)

This was intended as a birthday present for my sister. It’s either five months late or seven months early. Happy birthday, Iris!
