Notes

This is an ingenious pattern when it comes to using up ends of yarn (and also very practical)! Very nicely written and well-presented instructions. Given its construction, there are a lot of ends to weave in, but it’s a good opp to become comfortable with this task (if it bothers you).

Colour A - Shibui Staccato in Caffeine
Colour B - Classic Elite in Parchment
Colour C - Classic Elite in Regatta

PLUS - Colour D Shibui Staccato in Brass for gusset

29-04-2018

After the hand section (Part 1) of the pattern, I am running lower on yarn than I imagined I would (but having never made this before, hard to tell whether I’ll have to break out another stash yarn to finish the thumb portion):

Colour A - 7.7g left (started with 12g)
Colour B - 5.4g left (started with 9g)
Colour C - 3.5g left (started with 8g)

29-04-2018

Each Part 1 (body) of the gloves uses ~ 15g of fingering yarn on US5 needles. I estimate each gusset will take 5 g or a total of 20g per mitt or 40g of yarn for 2 mitts i.e 18g Colour A, 12g Colour B, 10g Colour C.

I’m not going to have enough yarn to do Part 2 (thumb gusset) because I used up every gram of this yarn (Classic Elite and Shibui) on Part 1. Fortunately, I have some of the Shibui in Brass colourway left over.

Update - I was wrong - the gusset thumb takes only about 1g fingering per mitt (or 2g total, not 10g total)

Pattern calls for ~105 yards of DK yarn to make 2 half-mitts. Can’t speak for DK (cuz I’m using a mash up of fingering, sport and DK weights) but I’m looking at more like 125 yards for 2 half-mitts:

55 yards Colour A (~18g fingering)
35 yards Colour B (and pref 40 yards if you have it) (~12g)
35 yards Colour C (and pref 40 yards if you have it) (~10g)

You can mix and match the yarns differently than the pattern calls for i.e. if you have more of one colour than another, but don’t go below 125 yards.

I actually think you can prob get away with 10-11g of Colour A, but doesn’t hurt to have extra!
