The yarn that was gifted from knitting friends found its second project. I frogged the first project “Die Zwei” because I would not have worn it. So I gave the wonderful yarn a second start. I was inspired of Alison Ellen’s ‘Knitting - Colour, Structure and Design’ and took one of the mitered jackets as a basic for my interpretation.
This time I could clearly see that the yarn would not be sufficient for this project and I postponed it for three years.
In 2017 I was motivated to release as much unfinished objects as possible and to reduce my yarn stock significantly.
I decided three things:
- knitting the sleeves with the knitting machine (what I did not in the cap part)
- Substituting ‘Wasserratz’ by ‘Flaschenpost’ (and not buying another hank of Wasserratz), so I could finish the project.
- made neck piece
A three year old project finally finished.
The book is full of examples for modular pieces, colour examples and techniques. Not much clothing. You should be stimulated to create your own projects, and it has great potential to inspire you for umpty pieces of knitwear.

Das Garn wurde mir schon vor langer Zeit von den Strickfreundinnen frieda und Kerstin geschenkt. Das erste Projekt namens “Die Zwei” habe ich aufgezogen, das stand mir nicht, und so habe ich es aufgetrennt.
Die Wolle gefällt mir aber sehr, und so ließ ich mich von Alison Ellens Buch “Knitting - Colour, Structure and Design” inspirieren und begann eine Jacke mit modularen Patchen.
Nach zwei Dritteln wurde sie als UFO weggelegt, denn ich erkannte klar: das Garn würde nicht reichen. Das eine wollte ich nicht nachkaufen, das andere gibt es nicht mehr.
Neu motiviert, Angefangenes zuende zu bringen, zog ich den Projektbeutel aus dem Behälter und zwang mich zum Nachdenken, wie das Strickstück zu einem Ende findet.
Die Lösung: von Kerstin hatte ich ein weiteres Geschenkgarn, die Flaschenpost von Wollmeise. Diese durfte Ersatz und Ergänzung für die ausgehenden Garne sein.
Die Ärmel wurden mit dem Handstrickapparat gefertigt, dabei wurde alles Garn bis auf die Flaschenpost verbraucht.

I knitted a special edge which covers all mechanical impurities (threads along the border, etc.) It looks good from both sides.
Ich habe einen schönen Rand gestrickt, der beidseitig gut aussieht. Kanten mit mitlaufenden Fäden können wunderbar abgedeckt werden. Eine Anleitung dafür kenne ich nicht, aber bei Gelegenheit will ich es dokumentieren.
