Inspired by the ‘Squashed Rat - Bookmark’ (pattern available here; http://www.supergurumi.com/amigurumi-crochet-rat-bookmark ), my nephew asked me to create a ‘Squashed Yoda’ for his Star Wars series of books that he is currently reading….who could resist!

Head;
6sc in a magic ring.
Rnd 1: (2sc in ea st) around. (12)
Rnd 2: (1sc, 2sc in next st) around. (18)
Rnd 3: (1sc in next 2sts, 2sc in next st) around. (24)
Rnd 4: (1sc in next 3sts, 2sc in next st) around. (30)
Rnd 5: (1sc in next 4sts, 2sc in nest st) around. (36)
Rnd 6: (1sc in next 5sts, 2sc in next st) around. (42)
Rnds 7-10: 1sc in ea st around. (42)
Rnd 8: (1sc in next 5sts, 2sctog) around. (36)
Rnd 9: (1sc in next 4sts, 2sctog) around. (30)
Rnd 10: (1sc in next 3sts, 2sctog) around. (24)
Rnd 11: (1sc in next 2sts, 2sctog) around. (18)
Rnd 12: (1sc, 2sctog) around. (18)
Rnd 13: (2sctog) around. (12)

Ears:
Start with a magic circle:
Rnd 1: 4 sc into the circle.
Rnd 2: 1sc in ea st around.
Rnd 3: (2 sc in next stitch, 1sc in next) around.
Rnd 4: 1sc in ea st around.
Rnd 5: (2 sc in next st, 1sc in next) around.
Rnds 6-9: 1sc in ea st around.
Rnd 10: (2 sc in next st, 1sc in next) around.
Rnd 11: 1sc in ea st around.
Rnd 12: (2 sc in next, 1sc in next 2 sts) around.
Rnds 13-14: sc around
Rnd 15: 2 sc in next stitch, sc in next 2 stitches
Rnd 16: sc around.
Rnd 17: sc2tog, 2 sc.
Rnd 18: sc around.
Rnd 19: sc2tog, sc in next 2 sts.

His nose area I made with small oval shape, stuffed and stitched to the face. His brow bone is sculpted by squishing the ball into the shape that you want and anchoring by stitching from one side to the other. Hair is scrap eyelash yarn.

Eyes - In black 4sc in a magic circle. Work a round of 2sc white and stitch in place.

Body;
Collar;
Using brown yarn held double, work 12 foundation double crochet, ch3, turn and work 2 rows of dc, finish off. Stitch to the underside of the head where the neck would be.

I worked a row of ch long enough to wrap around the outside of the collar piece - like a robe would. Work enough rows of sc to cover the collar piece. I then folded this piece so that the front edges of the ‘robe’ met in the middle and worked a row of sc through BOTH rows of stitches to join them together. I then continued working rows of sc until the body was the length that I needed - depends on the size of your book, and finished off.
Place this piece up around the collar piece that you’ve already attached an anchor it in place with a few stitches, leaving the front open to look like Yoda’s robe.
About halfway down his body, I twisted a scrap piece of yarn and made it his belt.

Sleeves (make 2);
12 single crochet.
Work rows of sc to about half the length that you think his arm should be, then work a few rows with an increase to get the sleeve to flair a bit at the hand end.

Hands (make 2);
Yoda has three fingers so I worked, in green, (5ch, then working back down the ch I worked 1sc, 1hdc, 1dc, 1dc)
then continued on with 6ch, back down the ch with 1sc, 1hdc, 1dc, 1dc, 1dc, then repeat from * to * for the third finger, finish off leaving a thread for stitching. I used a needle to thread through all three fingers - at the hand end, not the pointy ends - to draw all of the dc’s together to form the hand, then stitched the hand into the flaired end of the sleeves.

Feet (make 2);
Yoda has three prominent toes and one small toe at the back of his foot.
Work the feet in the same way as the hands
Start with 6 ch, work back down with (1sl st, 1sc, 1hdc, and dc’s to the end) three times for the front toes and work 4ch, 1sc, 1hdc, 1dc for the back toe. Finish in the same was as the hands and stitch your finished feet to the bottom of his robe.
