This is “take 2” of the husband sweater. 1st was the seamless hybrid. Came out too big and really sucked.
7/30: I have one sleeve done on THIS sweater as of today. Taking detailed notes and looking at the previous project to make sure size is measured and estimated correctly this time.
8/21: Sleeve #2 started.
8/24: Sleeve #2 done. Will be working on sleeve #2 of Wyatt’s sweater now. Once that is done will cast on both bodies.
8/27: Cast on body
8/31: Almost done with hem and ready to knit the provisional cast on edge together with the top of the hem. This kind of hem takes forever.
11/14: Past hem. Knit first skein on body and have about 1 inch knitted up from second skein.
2/20/11: Joined sleeves to body. Body is 16 inches (unstretched). I can stretch it to 19 if I want. Hoping this turns out wonderful. Feel like getting it done this month.
7/18/11: Have appx 3 inches of yoke done. Need to do 3-4 more inches before I can do the first decrease. It will go fast once that is done. Got a lot done watching HP7PART1 last night. Maybe some movie marathons are in order?
8/22/11: Uploaded pics of the sweater on the man. It is fitting very nicely! And looks good! Slight encouragement to finish before this winter. :)
8/26/11: Official weight (with needles in project, a 32 inch US size 5) is 634g.
9/18/11: Did first yoke decrease. Went from 356 stitches to 267 stitches.
10/11/11: Done. Woot! Woot! Actually, done twice. I finished per EZ yoke/collar instructions/percentages at 4PM. Tried it on, and the collar opening was still too big and low. Man also said the fabric didn’t feel as dense. Ripped out sewn cast off, garter collar, picked 108 stitches back up on size 4 needles. Left the back of neck shaping where it was already knit in. Knit for another inch. Decrease 12 stitches evenly. Knit for another inch or so. Decrease 6 more stitches evenly. 90 stitches. Did a hemmed collars on 12 rounds of 90 stitches. Purl one round. Knit one round while decreasing 10% for inside collar. Knit 11 rounds on 81 stitches. Whip stitch collar down on inside of neck. (Boy was that fun, a true learning experience.)
Try on man before removing lifeline in neck. Winner!! It fits!
Kitchener underarms. Easy peasy. No problems.
Weave in all 600 billion ends.
Wet block. Soak in bathtub. Use 3 man-sized towels to soak water back out of sweater. Block of kitchen table. Takes up entire table that seats 8. Oy.
When the sweater is wet the one skein from a different dye-lot is VERY noticeable - there is a stripe across the front. But, THANK YOU GOD, when it is dry it is not noticeable at all.
10/14/11: I am so relieved and happy to have this completed. It has been a true labor of love. I learned a lot knitting this sweater, especially knitting the entire thing two times. There are even a few things I would do different if I ever knit it again. Lol.
The first decrease puckers/bunches a little and looks sort of like rusching. I was able to block it smooth. I think I would do the alternate decrease options in the Opinionated Knitter (I had already knit past the point of the first decrease in this option when I read about this option….so I trucked on with the original set of decreases). The original has 3 decreases, while the other option has 4 spaced even farther apart. For a very large circumference sweater, the alternate seems a better option. I would still have to do my additional decrease at the neck like I mentioned above because the man is shaped that way. I love this about knitting - you can easily accommodate the knitting to get a perfect fit.
Pictures to come of the FO.
Final weight, with needles, was 829g (so I can calculate yardage for the KAL). Need to weigh once more for official weight and yardage.
