Modifications:
- Slab start cast on 3 knit 42 rows and turn 90 degrees then pick up and purl 21 stitches in lowest purl bumps. Turn 90 degrees put yarn in back with tail and knit 3. Turn work, to RS, start row 14 on chart one. Makes 3 stitch start and written increases unnecessary - added three stitch spine, (see pattern used below)
- Spine altered: Used 3 stitch, 4 row repeating spine pattern from Elowen Shawl Row 1: k, k yo, yo, k in same stitch, k. Row 2 (WS) P, slip 4, P. Row 3: Slip Slip Ktog, Slip 2, Knit 2tog. Row 4: (WS) P1, Drop one loop, P2.**
- Replaced Yarn Overs on either side of spine with a Make one right and left.
- Bobble/Nupp hybrid: Knit/YO into the same stitch to make 7 loops, turn work and PURL back. Turn and use a crochet hook to knit all 7 together into one.

Chart 1, Done.
Chart 2, Done.
Making good progress on knitting, currently on fourth row of second repeat on chart 3. Averaging 4 rows a day, knitting for two hours each sitting. At this rate I will be done with chart 3 in eleven days.
3/10 - 7 rows done.
3/11 - 2 Rows during the day and…
3/20 Chart 3 done, 16 rows of chart 4 in. will increase shawl 100 stitches by the end of this chart.
3/28 Going to enter into WIP for spring contest…in order to do this I will document my weights now and confirm on completion. I may be wrong but I think I am under 60% done.
Weights:
cardboard cone plus remaining yarn: 190.2 grams
shawl: 138.6 grams includes signature #3, 30” circular needles, two needle stoppers, 16 small plastic markers and one life line.
Will weigh completed shawl. Also will weigh needles, markers, stoppers and lifeline to subtract from midpoint weight. Mid point weight minus equipment will be divided by completed weight to get the percentage complete.
4/4 -16 more rows of chart 4 left to go.
4/12 Chart 4 complete
4/19 15 rows of chart 5 done.
4/20 19 more rows to go. Am considering a stretchy bind off rather than the loops. Have to experiment.
4/27 3 rows to go! Last wrap row took two hours!
4/28 #3 Needle, stoppers, 16 markers, and lifeline equal =9.5 grams. one more row to go… Switched 10 rows ago to US#3 47” addi rocket. Means that my start of the Spring WIP contest my project weighed 129.1 grams, I have used 102 grams since and still have knitting and bind off to do. I am now confident that the project was >55% complete.
4/29 Done!!!!!! 240 grams, lace wt - 4024 yards turned three ply to fingering - 1341 yards used. Alternate Lace Bind Off-Bind off: Knit 2, slipped back on the left needle and knit together. Then knit one and slip back it and cast off the stitch on the left needle, knit together. Washed shawl as I washed the swatches. Three hot soapy baths followed by rinses with vinegar. The red bled quite a bit. Blotted with towel and fluffed in hot dryer.
