Cast on 48, k2, p2 for 12 rounds.
Setup round (1) and all odd rounds - k3, p1 around.
Rnd 2 - (k2tog, yo, k1, p) around.
Rnd 4 - as for round 1.

Repeat rnds 1-4 through row 36.

Round 37 - k1, m1, k1, m1, k1, p1, (k3, p1) around
Round 38 - k5, (k3, p1) x5, (k2tog, yo, k1, p1) x6
Round 39 - k1, m1, k3, m1, k1, p1, (k3, p1) around
Round 40 - k7, p1, (k3, p1) around

Continue increasing for thumb gusset as established until there are 23 k sts before the first p1 (round 55 in mine)…knit one more round in patter.
Split off 21 thumb stitches and place on holder in the first post gussett round (rnd 57), as follows:
k1, remove held sts, cast on 1, k1, p1, (k3, p1) around…and continue lace on back of hand, (k3, p1) on front of hand through 72 sts.

Work 12 rounds rib, and bind off.

Pick up thumb sts and cast on three in the gap. Knit one round plain, then (k2, p2) rib 12 rounds and bind off.
